Comforting Teal & Cozy Indigo

Hues of indigo and teal top our list as the best colors to use in your home decor this fall & winter.

It’s natural that autumn is typically associated with the orange, yellow, and red hues transforming the outdoors. But Amanda makes the case for instead embracing rich blue tones in your home decor this fall and winter. Shades of indigo and teal are an unexpected way to add depth to both your everyday decor as well as tabletop and bar pieces for entertaining that befits the changing seasons. They also pair beautifully with other colors of the season to create some of our favorite color combinations for the cooler months of the year.

Back to school, back to life — closed-toe shoes! These are the hallmarks of autumn. For me, it is my favorite time of year to plan. I think about holiday dinners, cooler temperatures, and seasonal cooking.
— Amanda

Annual back-to-school shopping trips were a formative experience for many of us, instilling the habit of starting fresh with a new wardrobe for the onset of fall. These days, the change of seasons is the perfect opportunity to refresh our home’s look by mixing in fun new pieces and layering in different colors and textures.

This year, the standout color to seek out for your autumn decor is blue. For Amanda, blue is already a year-round staple in her design work and homeware collections — in the islands, that’s a given! But the aquas and light blues that paint sun-filled summer vistas take a turn for the moodier in the form of teal and indigo, which set the tone for cooler weather, longer nights, and all the gatherings during the holiday season.

Favorite Color Combinations for Fall and Winter 2021

Our collection adapts gently to these changing seasons with slightly richer colored linens for autumn — teals and indigos bring a richness and depth to the table.
— Amanda

Our latest collection expands on the existing pieces that make up Amanda’s signature breezy-casual style. The newest additions for fall and winter embrace those darker hues, without losing the cheery island spirit at the heart of everything Amanda designs. Several linen staples — tablecloths, dinner napkins, and placemats — are now available in these featured teal and indigo shades.

Wondering how to work them into the fall and winter decor around your home? Here are three beautiful color palettes we recommend trying this season.

Teal and Coral

The simplest way to find colors that play well together is to look at the color wheel. For blue-green teal, the color opposite it on the color wheel is coral, a mix of red and orange. This is a natural shade well-suited for fall and winter that pairs beautifully with teal.

How to use it:

Our Cane & Island Wrapped Hurricanes used as vases (filled with mums, succulents, or even herbs) will complement teal glassware or votives. Or, top one of our teal block-printed tablecloths with fall’s most obvious decor: pumpkins and gourds. These make for festive, long-lasting centerpieces that work solo or in small groupings — and the cheery mix of natural orange shades against a rich teal backdrop makes for a festive table setting. Another perfect match? Drinks served in our Everything Glass in Coral with teal napkins. Pretty and practical.

Indigo and Warm Candlelight

In the Bahamas, we eat outside every chance we get. Candlelight is as necessary to a dinner table as the silverware and food. Our nearly navy indigo with the warm glow of candlelight makes even simple suppers sparkle with glamour.

How to use it:

Indigo-tinted Our Everything Glass in Blue or our Island Wrapped Glassware in Navy glassware — from votives and hurricanes to glassware and vases — instantly sets a cozy, intimate mood. Lean into the warm and cozy feeling by setting your dining table or topping your coffee table with cheerful blooms (think ranunculus, dahlias, or roses) inside of or alongside the indigo glassware. Layer indigo table linens and candlelight to create a beautiful table setting that practically begs to host meals of warm soups and mulled wine.

Creamy Neutrals and Indigo

If you prefer a neutral color palette for your home decor and tabletop, you can still sprinkle in accents of indigo for a subtler nod toward the cooler months of the year. Ivory and white look all the crisper when set against a darker hue like indigo.

How to use it:

Some of Amanda’s favorite natural materials — wicker, raffia, bamboo, cane — lend themselves to a neutral color palette without falling flat thanks to their great texture. Our fall collection expands on that, with flatware and serveware in bone, bamboo, and woven finishes. Plus, new ruffle edge plates and everyday glassware feature a ribbon of color along the edge of an otherwise neutral piece. Layered with our indigo tablecloths, napkins, votives, and more, your go-to neutrals will be beautifully eased into the cooler months of fall and winter.
